The Beauty Of Faith
Revisit the solo art exhibition, “The Beauty Of Faith” by Tony Ng.
The Faith OF Beauty
After graduating with a Fine Arts degree in 2003, I embarked on a journey of personal creation. In this process, I explored the spectrum from flat planes to profound depths of color, in a constant search for the essence of “beauty.” However, after years of exploration, I realized with disappointment that my quest had been confined to the technicalities of beauty. I was unable to grasp it from a broader, more holistic perspective.
I came to understand that “beauty” is not an external quality but an intrinsic, deeply personal psychological experience. It surrounds us at all times, waiting to be discovered. Its scope is boundless, encompassing everything in life and expressed through countless mediums—text, sight, and sound. In literature, for instance, the beauty may not be immediate. A work might first be read, and only later trigger a cascade of emotions—joy, sorrow, regret—that paints vivid landscapes in the mind. This resonance is beauty.
Visual arts, such as painting and design, offer a more direct expression. When a viewer connects with a piece, a profound sense of beauty is achieved. Likewise, auditory experiences, from classical music to jazz, can evoke the same feeling. Complex forms like film and architecture synthesize various media to present their unique vision of beauty.
In the face of life’s pressures, beauty becomes a solace. The act of appreciating it offers a vital respite from the demands of reality, creating a space to breathe and reflect. A meaningful work of art can inspire introspection and even shift one’s mindset. Art also serves as a historical record. Through it, we can glimpse the social fabric of bygone eras; the artist’s life and perspective infuse history with a personal dimension, making it more vivid and compelling.
From this point forward, I am committed to honing my perception to appreciate all the beauty that life has to offer. I believe my future path lies in seeking this beauty with unwavering perseverance and firm conviction. Thus, “The Faith in Beauty” has become the title for this exhibition. If beauty is a faith, then I wish to be its shepherd, dedicating myself to guiding all of you into its profound and welcoming embrace.
