Kupu2Besi

“Kupu-Kupu Besi” presents a mechanical butterfly forged from discarded iron parts. The weight of metal embodies the burdens of politics and history—marks of corrosion, unhealed fractures, and a long wait unresolved.

Its wings are painted with batik motifs, reflecting the resilience and continuity of Malaysian culture. The iron makes its flight heavy, yet it spreads its wings nonetheless.

On November 24, 2022, Malaysia welcomed its 10th Prime Minister—a turning point in time, and an echo of history. This butterfly is not light; it carries the weight of political entanglements and the hopes of its people.

It flies, not because it is unburdened, but because it must continue forward while bearing the weight.

Purpose of Creation |

Kupu2Besi is not a butterfly of imagination, but a witness forged from discarded metal and batik patterns. It carries the weight of history and reflects the reality of today. My intention is simple—to faithfully record what I see in Malaysia, to preserve these fragments, and let them continue to speak through time.

This work is not meant to move viewers instantly. Instead, I hope it lingers — quietly, with afterglow — provoking reflection, and allowing one to sense the unease and fragility of our present world.
