My work, “Give Birth a New Life,” is a personal interpretation of life’s cycles and the power of hope. I’ve always had a special connection to withered wood. For me, it isn’t an end; it carries the weight of time and history. This log symbolizes the challenges, hardships, and seemingly insurmountable “deaths” we face in life. Yet, from its surface, I have painted vibrant new leaves and a butterfly ready to take flight. This is more than a simple realistic depiction; it’s a reflection of my inner belief that from life’s hardships, new hope and possibilities can always emerge. The butterfly represents metamorphosis and rebirth, breaking free from decay to embark on a new, bright journey.

I chose Malaysian Batik fabric as a central element because it is an indispensable symbol in my art. To me, Batik is more than just beautiful patterns and colors; it’s a reflection of my childhood memories growing up on this land. It represents our rich cultural heritage, the craftsmanship passed down through generations, and the warmth of everyday life. In this painting, the ornate beauty of the Batik provides a striking contrast to the rustic simplicity of the wood. They complement each other, telling a story of how life draws nourishment from tradition and is constantly reborn through change.
